MC-12 Liberty

So exactly what is an MC-12? You know, that plane Matt has been assigned to fly for the Air Force? Well, it looks like this:

It is the military version of the King Air Beechcraft 1900. I know y'all wanted to know that. Clearly, this plane is not nearly as cool as some, if not all, the Air Force planes. BUT, this plane was second on Matt's list, so yay!

So why would a pilot trained on a fighter trainer want to fly this rather uncool airplane? One, it's not a fighter plane :) Two, you don't pull many G's. Three, he will be able to log A TON of hours. And four, the military version is actually quite cool.

Watch this video. Thank you Uncle Jon for posting it on my Facebook. This basically will tell you everything you need to know.

Matt wants to directly impact the war. What better way to do that then doing surveillance? The MC-12 can take all kinds of classified surveillance and whatever else that can be analyzed to help locate terrorist masterminds. They have a birds eye view of any fighting going and can assist with surveillance to keep our soldiers safe. This job might not be the "coolest" job out there, but it's extremely important. And he's directly impacting the war AND not deploying weapons, which he is excited about. He would do it if he was asked to, but it's bonus to him that someone else in a different airplane gets that job.

Most pilots who receive this assignment are bitter, because they wanted fighters. Matt wanted this airplane. We are looking forward to moving to California and joining the MC-12 community! And hopefully Matt isn't deployed TOO soon. But he will be eventually.

Until then, though, we'll enjoy our time out of pilot training. FINALLY!
